Fri 15 Dec: #lunch at The Glorious in Antwerp with @nickmenko.
As you know, this account is a record of all my meals — not just my nice meals. But this lunch easily ranks as one of the best I’ve had since starting all this.
Took advantage of being in Belgium to take a train from Brussels to Antwerp where @nickmenko, an old university friend, now lives. We opted for The Glorious — classic yet elevated dishes in a former warehouse with baroque and art-deco features — one Michelin star.
I don’t get to see Nick too often (what with him living in Belgium and me living in China). So we went all out and had the six-course menu. With wine. And yes, it was absolutely glorious (see below for full descriptions).
Many hours, multiple dishes, and much wine later, we stumbled out into the winter night and took a stroll around the city, including the Christmas market, and a few gin stops along the way.
Finished up in a place called Berlin, the name of which I found confusing given the geography, before heading back to Brussels.
A brilliant meal, and beyond fantastic to catch up with @nickmenko once more — when it comes to showing old friends a good time in Antwerp you could say he really is a diamond geezer. #AllMyMeals#OneMichelinStar
