The lion is back!! Started working on my fro for the weekend. This is maybe 50% fullness. I will let it dry completely and then brush it out to achieve a full bush!! . . Wait, y'all didnt know I had a voice like Whitney Houston??? #dontsleep . . Seriously, why am I like this? This is only the smallest of taste of my goofy... it gets much worse (and runs in a near constant loop all day. Everyday). I think its bc I was an only child until 15ish. Necessitated a lot of self-stimulation and bemusement. I thought everyone had private parties where they turn on music, dress up, act out music videos and imaginary dialogue with the likes of Nas and Beyonce well into their 40s... until my friends told me they absolutely do not engage in such behavior. 1️⃣ The Squat in my opinion is the king of all lower body exercises. Not only is it a compound exercise (recruits a large amount of muscle groups) but trains hip extension in patterns such as jumping, which is specific to the sporting field. Other variations could include front squats, box squats, goblet squats, safety squat bar squats etc. ✔️3-5 sets ✔️1-12 reps (both strength and size) 2️⃣Pull ups. My favourite upper body exercise. Mastering your own body weight is critical for all athletes. By training the upper bodies posterior chain (lats, rhomboids, lower traps etc) which most athletes don't do enough of, is critical for performance and injury reduction. Pull ups and their variations are excellent for tackling or throwing athletes. Other variants could consist of chin ups, neutral grip, weighted, banded etc. coaching cues. Start from a dead hang, chin over bar, don't allow elbows to fall to far behind body at the top to prevent scapular anterior tilt (shoulder pain) ✔️2-4 sets ✔️1-6 reps for strength 7+ for size and or endurance 3️⃣Half kneeling 1 arm landmine press. I decided to choose this instead of an overhead press, because it is much is easier to learn, and can be a much more user friendly exercise for the shoulder and lower back. That's not to say don't overhead press, but make sure the athlete is competent to do so. I love the half kneeling landmine press as it allows sufficient upward rotation of the shoulder blade around the rib cage, critical for shoulder health. ✔️2-3 sets ✔️8-12 reps 4️⃣Push up The push up should be a foundation for pretty much all athletes. It teaches you to master your own body weight. The push up is a closed chain exercise meaning it allows the scapula to move freely around the rib cage through protraction and retraction which you don't get in a bench press variation. Other variations can consist of weighted or banded push ups, feet elevated push ups, bench press, floor press, DB press etc ✔️Sets 2-4 ✔️Reps 6-12 5️⃣The deadlift in some variation should be a staple in most athletic programs. Training the posterior chain (hamstrings, glutes and lower back) is critical for athletic performance. *Full vid on fb*
