Words cannot describe how much I love being Black. Every good thing that involves Black people is worth celebrating and I stand by that wholeheartedly. Black appreciation does not end on Black History Month, it’s year round. ✊🏾

28 for 28 Day 11: Percy Julian Born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1899, Percy Julian attended school through the eighth grade but there were no high schools open to black students. He applied to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he had to take high school-level classes in the evening to get him up to the academic level of his peers yet still graduated first in his class. After obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of Vienna in Austria, Julian returned to DePauw to continue his research. In 1935 he earned international acclaim by synthesizing physostigmine from the calabar bean to create a drug treatment for glaucoma, but in spite of his success, the university refused to make him a full professor because of his race. With a desire to leave academia, Julian was rejected from several positions after hiring managers discovered he was black, but he eventually landed a career as the Lab Director at Glidden Company. Julian left Glidden in 1953 and established his own laboratory, Julian Laboratories, in 1954. He sold the company in 1961, becoming one of the first black millionaires, before founding Julian Research Institute, a nonprofit organization that he ran for the rest of his life. Julian was a pioneer in the chemical synthesis of medicinal drugs such as cortisone, steroids and birth control pills some of which are still used today. #BlackHistory #BlackHistoryMoth #BHM

Today was all about the knowledge and culture of African Americans. It was a great experience for me to show the culture and heritage of African Americans to students with my dish. I got a lot of good comments on “How this was the best food they had in the cafe and how the dish was about the culture of US”. This dish was something that my grandmother used to cook and how she grew up eating them. My mom and brother came to eat and support me. My brother and I talked about how it was all about showcasing the culture of Black People, where we came from and where we are now. #nicholls #culinary #cjfci #nichollsculinary #blackhistorymoth #blackhistory 👩🏽‍🍳👩🏾🧔🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

(el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) There’s something very pivotal about sharing a birthday with this man. Definitely getting an X or maybe even his whole face tatted on me this year. Where should I get it?
