Sunday Solitude @pilatesdwell || #pilates#rest I looked out the window today while stretching and found my mind wandering, wondering, and looking for answers to questions and concerns that took root in my life of late. #job#finances#family#friends#future 😒 While trying to stay in the moment, I silently said a small prayer to God and went into a mat Pilates rest position/child pose. Stretching, Strengthening and Stabilizing
I forgot I filmed this little peach.
Looking at yourself is a tricky thing. When we filmed this I didn’t like it. My form wasn’t quite what I wanted and I was very analytical. It was like my magnifying glass was dialed in too close and I couldn’t even see what the structure was. #worstselfcritic
A little time and space and I think wow, this is pretty great! Why did I think it wasn’t good enough to share? Why did I think I wasn’t good enough?
I’m sure this concept of ‘not being enough’ has led me to strive hard to achieve my goals, which is awesome, but how many times did I shut myself down because I didn’t live up to my own expectations or my perceived expectations of others? Wha?!! It’s more than just self-love practices, it’s about rewiring stress physiology of the brain. Sometimes we move our spine to increase its flexibility and release tension. Sometimes we keep our spines straight and stable while working mobility of adjoining joints. Romana would cue proper standing posture with: “a rod of steel from head to heel”. Here I am aligning my spine with a rod of steel and pressing into it while mobilizing my shoulders using my lats for strength. The Pedi Pole is quickly becoming one of my favourite and most necessary pieces of apparatus in the studio.
