As I’ve currently got use of a rower, I wanted to see how they compare to the Skierg in an EMOM workout. . So, after my strength work today I finished with 3 rounds of: . Min 1 = 15 calorie Row Min 2 = 10 Power Snatches @ 45kg Min 3 = 15 calorie @assaultairbike Min 4 = 6 KB Cleans @ 28kg . 12 minutes of work in a format I’m very used to apart from the row. And I have to say, the Skierg is harder. It’s a different type of work that you need in order to move the ski. It doesn’t allow you to ‘rest’ or ‘coast’ as the rower allows you to. I’ll play with both tomorrow just because I can 🤷🏻‍♂️ and I’ll let you know what I get up to and whether my view changes. . Even if you’re not a CrossFitter you can still benefit from trying this workout. . 18.1 = As Many Rounds As Possible in 20 minutes of: . - 8 Toes to Bar - 10 DB Hang Clean & Jerk @ 15kg/22.5kg (f/m) - 12/14 (f/m) calories on the Rower . I managed 11 rounds and 4 Toes to Bar which is a score of 356 reps. I’m going to retest this workout on a slightly taller bar as I reckon (🙏🏻) I can improve to 12 rounds. . A few tips for you if you’re thinking of trying it: . Toes to bar will be the make or break of this workout for most people. Don’t be scared to plan ahead and split the reps up (4+4 or 6+2 recommended). If you’re comfortable at performing 8 toes to bar then pace them. . Use your hips and legs to move the DB on the hang clean and jerks. Don’t rely on your biceps and shoulders as these will burn out quickly. Watch my technique in the video for these. . In my opinion, you should row quite hard. It’s not a large amount of calories to complete and as long as you’re not pulling with your arms, but instead driving with your legs, you’ll feel ok at a higher pace. I held between 1400-1500 cals/hr pace for each 14 cal interval and this pace helped with getting more rounds in. . Lastly, unless you’re trying to get to regionals, enjoy it. It’s a good challenge and test of YOUR Fitness levels. Don’t get caught up in what others are doing. Another full body strength session ticked off ✅ . So much bang for your buck in these sessions, they leave you feeling like you’ve given your all. Lack of time should never be an excuse not to workout. Whenever time is short I will often turn to EMOM (each minute on the minute) workouts or AMRAPs (as many rounds as possible). . These workout styles allow you to get a huge amount of high quality work into a short amount of time. Get in, get shit done, get out. . Today’s workout was an excellent example of this concept. . Alternating EMOM for 5 rounds of: . - Min 1 = 15 calories @assaultairbike - Min 2 = 10 Power Snatch @ 45kg - Min 3 = 8 Alt DB Snatches @ 25kg + 8 Burpees - Min 4 = 3 Power Cleans @ 80kg . This workout took me 20 minutes to complete and tested my strength, power, speed, endurance, balance and co-ordination! . As I’ve said before, praise intensity applied correctly, not the length of time spent working out.
