June 18, 2014 my garage got struck by lightning while we were up north. That was a horrible call from my neighbor. Thanks to my friends at the fire dept. they rolled my 66 caprice out before it would have been a total loss. Actually a Good Samaritan saw smoke a quarter mile away and stoped in to tell me but no one home. Called 911. So I spent that summer rebuilding a bigger better garage. It was quite an adventure!
12.30.2017 | 12:44 AM | NORTH TUSTIN – A pair of Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped what could have been a devastating fire early Saturday morning.
Officials received reports of a garage fire in the 12500 block of Vista Panorama in unincorporated North Tustin just before 1:00 AM. Multiple callers reported a generator had caught fire and was spreading throughout the multi-level cliffhanger garage.
Due to the location of the residence on the top of a hill only accessible by roads large enough for one vehicle, fire apparatus had an extended response time to the fire. Nonetheless, Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and arrived first on scene in their patrol vehicle.
The pair of deputies jumped into immediate action and immediately evacuated the residents of the home who where attempting to douse the fire with a garden hose. Both deputies then took over the garden hose lines and proceeded to initiate an aggressive fire attack.
As a result of the deputies work the fire was largely out upon he arrival of firefighters who proceeded to conduct overhaul and check for any potential extension of the fire.
A resident reported the fire began when a generator running to power electricity that had been shut off by Southern California Edison was position too close to insulation used to keep the generators noise. The insulation resultantly caught fire and spread rapidly.
Orange County Fire Authority Fire Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire and will determine whether any foul play was involved.
