#Takeaway #tipoftheday Sweet potato - it's better for me! #fact or #fad? 🥔 We all love a potato but in recent years the sweet potato has become very popular in regular diets, many of us considering them as the "healthy option" or commonly known as a member of the "superfoods" group. So in order to shed some clarity on which is best, we took a look at their nutritional value. The "Normal potato (NP)" * 72 kcal per 100g Carbs - 17.1g Fat - 0.1g Protein - 2g Fibre - 1.3g The "Sweet Potato (SP)"* 85 kcal per 100g Carbs - 20.3g Fat - 0.1g Protein - 1.6g Fibre - 3g As you can see, the difference in calories is minimal per 100g. However, protein content is higher in normal potato than sweet, as well as carbs being lower. On the other hand, we can see that fibre is higher in sweet potato, so where does this leave us? Let's take a look at the sugar content. With SP coming in at 4.5g and NP at 0.7g per 100g, you could argue that overall the normal potato comes up trumps. So what does it boil down to? PREFERENCE would be the answer here. Comparing the two is a good way of illustrating that normal potatoes aren't necessarily the devil that they are made to out to be and depend highly on how these are prepared.
