Andrea, It’s been awesome watching you evolve as an athlete and a swimmer, and also overcoming your fears. Consistency and hard work pays off! Without fantastic people like yourself we wouldn’t have this program. Thank you and keep up the great work. See you on the pool deck.
I realized it's been a year since I started swimming with @ottersswimsquad, led by Coach @mitchreiss. I showed up with a lifelong fear (bordering on hatred) of swimming, managing about a lap at a time, with no technical background. I still don't remember what finally pushed me to give it a shot, and if I'm being truly honest, I think I wanted an excuse to fail. But I showed up anyway, then got to experience an incredible team environment across all ability levels, as well as a pool that you can stand up in if you need to (that was very important to me at first), and I decided to keep coming back. I didn't think it would be sustainable to swim that early twice a week, and I routinely contemplated quitting... but after awhile, I felt like I couldn't not show up, even when things felt challenging. Thanks to Mitchell's unbelievable patience and kind persistence, I went from zero to solid middle of the pack triathlete level swimming. I did my first Olympic distance triathlon last year, got into open water swimming (in an AWESOME #roka wetsuit, courtesy of #etpamerica), and put the final nail in my swimming fear coffin by successfully completing an Alcatraz crossing. I'm so grateful for the patience, support, high level coaching, and general fun thanks to #ETPA and the Otters sessions.. gives me all the feels!
