Each year, our collection grows thanks to the generous donations of enthusiasts just like you. Enthusiasts who love cars so much, they want to share their car's story with millions of others. This year, the museum received more than 35 vehicles which ranged from #rallycars to #splitwindow Corvettes. This original, #unrestored 1935 #mercedes 290 cabriolet, is just one of the many amazing cars that now call #thepetersen home (on display in the #vault). If you have a #classiccar you want to donate or know somebody that does, email us @ email@example.com. Photo by @iamted7 .
This is Joe Lisoni. In 1958, his father built the “Missfire” with the help of Carl Offenhauser so Joe could race the quarter midget series in Southern California. The car was years ahead of the competition and helped Joe rack up over 60 wins in 4 years. The photo is from Joe’s last race in Lawndale where he took the checkered flag and set the record for longest winning streak in his division (16 wins).
THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 12: 2017 Gypsy Rose Piñata by Justin Favela
Justin Favela is a Las Vegas native working in the mediums of #painting, #sculpture, and performance. Justin's interpretation of #Gypsy#Rose as a #piñata questions the boundary between #art and #ephemeral everyday #objects, and it has quickly become a favorite in the exhibit. Even the presentation raises questions. Is it hanging like a piñata? Is it rearing up on hydraulics? Is it driving off into the sky?
THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 11: 1958 #Chevrolet#Impala "#Final#Score"
“Final Score” is the successor to Chris Roark’s “The #Perfect Score,” which won three @lowridermagazine “Lowrider of the Year” titles before being heavily damaged while returning from an event. Realizing the opportunity to start over from scratch, Roark went to new extremes to build one of his finest lowriders, which also became a three-time winner (2015, 2016, and 2017). When the trunk opens, integrated lights beam down on the #gilded components and #candy#paint to produce a powerful reflection that can illuminate a sunny day.

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 10: "#Gypsy#Rose" 1964 #Chevrolet#Impala
This Gypsy Rose is actually the second one. The first, named after the #burlesque#dancer, was destroyed. It was so well-loved that Valadez recreated it in 1974. Gypsy Rose is adorned with approximately 150 hand-painted roses, and the interior features #pink crushed #velvet upholstery, chandeliers, and a #cocktail bar. Recognized by the @historicvehicle association and featured in numerous issues of @lowridermagazine , “Gypsy Rose is an icon of heritage, culture, and a lifestyle born out of Los Angeles.”

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 9: "Bad Blood" 1976 @Ford LTD Landau
Rudy Sandoval distinguished himself by producing #masterpieces with the #Ford#LTD as the canvas. This LTD, named “Bad Blood,” took two years to complete, and it features intricate #paintwork and #pinstriping with a #lavish interior illuminated by fiberoptic cables. "Bad Blood" earned Rudy the title of "LTD #King."

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 8: "Lemonlaid" 1958 #Chevrolet#Impala
A veteran of lowrider #customization, Danny Arriaga @premier58 undertook the five-year project of transforming this 1958 Impala. From afar the paint appears to be solid #candy yellow, but up close there are "ghost details" that accentuate the #chrome and bodywork. #Lemonlaid features a rare vintage Pesco aircraft #hydraulic system that has become extremely #popular among traditional lowrider builders.

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 7: " #Fatal Attraction" 1972 #Chevrolet Monte Carlo
With the help of his fellow #Lifestyle Car Club members, Jose Alvarez Jr. worked for 4 years to turn his grandfather's Monte Carlo into the highly regarded "Fatal Attraction." The labor-intensive #customization reworked the shape of the body panels and redesigned the #dashboard and center console.

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 4: "Slipping into Darkness" 1963 #Chevrolet#Impala
@cletosanchez61 intended for this to be his daily driver, but like many detail-obsessed artists, he started adding personal touches to the paint, #chrome, and upholstery until he ended up with this "semi-full custom" lowrider. Renowned for its paintwork, this Impala has also taken the title for Best #Hydraulic Setup at the @lowridermagazine awards.

THE 12 DAYS OF #LOWRIDER, DAY 2: "El Muertorider," 1968 #Chevrolet#impala
Created in 2006 by artists @jjleanos and Artemio Rodriguez, the exterior of El #Muertorider is covered in monochromatic woodcut-inspired designs evocative of José Guadalupe Posada's turn of the century prints. The images mix in modern themes that relate to policing, ritual, and current events.

THE 12 DAYS OF LOWRIDER, DAY 1: "Our Family Car," 1950 #Chevrolet#Sedan
Artist Gilbert “Magu” Luján (1940-2011) transformed his family’s 1950 @chevrolet sedan into a #lowrider with what he called “a lighthearted kind of folk #art narrative.” Featuring a #taco front seat and a desert diorama in the rear window, the many of the surfaces depict symbols and scenes of #Chicano#culture imbued with Magu's trademark playfulness.
